I Can’t Even: The Best Adulting Menswear Essentials from Bingham’s — Part 2

Depending on your job, the disheveled look can only carry you so far. A polished appearance complete with well-fitting clothing can do amazing things for one’s confidence. Read on for reliable and effective tips in Part 2 of Bingham’s Adulting Menswear Essentials:

In our last installment, we talked about suits, ties, dress shirts, the necessity of a belt and appropriate jeans. Next on the list are sweaters.

Sweaters. A lightweight sweater from Bingham’s is a great transitional piece from season to season. You can wear a sweater from Peter Millar or Robert Graham with a button down shirt, with or without a tie, under a sport or suit jacket or with an open collared button down and coordinating solid T-shirt peeking out underneath. Throw on a sport coat and jeans and your not-too-casual-oh-this-old-thing look will yield many approving looks.

Trousers. Jeans aside, another wardrobe essential is a neat pair of trousers, be they dress pants or casual chinos. Options from Ballin or Bill’s Khakis are incredibly comfortable, versatile and lightweight.

Shoes. Your feet will thank you a million times over for investing in a few pairs of high-quality shoes. Start with a pair of dress shoes and a pair that checks the casual box so that you have a few styles to rotate through. At Bingham’s, we carry both looks from Trask and Martin Dingman and can offer suggestions for how to pull off completing your outfit in shoes that aren’t black.

Underpants. Why are these in the list? Because we care. Taking care of yourself and maintaining a good grooming schedule also includes considering the first layer of clothing on your body. Throw out your torn and stretched underwear. You deserve the best! Who wants to wear a great outfit with overstretched underwear that bunches in all of the wrong places? Get some Saxx underwear. Stat.

Come and adult with us at Bingham’s today!

I Can’t Even: The Best Adulting Menswear Essentials from Bingham’s — Part 1

At Bingham’s in Columbia, we recognize that the millennial generation values teamwork, the fulfillment of feeling like you belong to something larger than yourself and opportunities for learning and advancement. Adulting and playing the part involves dressing comfortably, confidently and appropriately. Make sure you have these essentials in your wardrobe on your road to success — and watch your investment dollars stretch in high-quality items:

A well-fitting suit. A Paul Betenley or Byron suit in a lightweight fabric can take you from mild temperatures to the bitter cold with the help of a few layers. An off-the-rack sport coat is no substitute for a tailored suit that fits you perfectly in all the right places and looks like it was made for you. Talk to the team at Bingham’s about the right fit and style for you.

One of the best parts of investing in a suit is its versatility. Use the slacks with a dress shirt and sweater and skip the jacket. Or pair the jacket with more casual trousers, a button-down shirt and refined sneakers.

Tie boxes

Ties. The Bingham’s team will help you pick out a tie or two from Robert Talbott to dress up your outfit or give you the courage to get a wild hair and step out with a bold pattern. A snazzy tie can add the perfect punch or give you the missing amount of polish your outfit needs.

Dress shirts.
David Donahue, Peter Millar or Eton dress shirts are worth the investment. Let the staff at Bingham’s share suggestions for matching dress shirts with ties. Consider purchasing a more subdued neutral solid-colored shirt and patterned one that will go with your suit.

Leather belt.
Keep your pants up. Need we say more?

Jeans.
Save the severely faded and torn jeans for the weekend. Jeans from 34 Heritage are classy and well-fitting enough to go with a sweater and button-down shirt or an untucked shirt from johnnie-0 or Peter Millar

Stay tuned for part two of our adulting clothing essentials! In the meantime, see you at Bingham’s.

Dress Shirts You Never Have to Iron

Your grandfather was probably a great man. He likely taught you to value hard work, which you’ve applied to all things in your life. All things except for ironing your shirts, that is. Pop Pop may have pressed his shirts by candlelight, but let’s be real: nowadays, ain’t nobody got time for that.

Especially not when the no-iron dress shirt is now a thing. A big thing.

The no-iron dress shirt is not your grandfather’s over-starched, pilly blouse. It de-wrinkles with a light spritz of water and a gentle pull. Sometimes, all you have to do is put it on and wait 20 minutes. It’s brilliant.

Binghams is currently carrying no-iron shirts by Ike Behar, Andrew J and Enro.

Enro

We love you gramps, but this no-iron shirt thing is here to stay. And it’s better actually. Eliminating the slog of ironing frees a guy up to devote more energy to things that really matter, like prepping for an important pitch meeting, or charming the missus on date night.

Make your grandpa proud by coming into Binghams today and picking up a few no-iron shirts. Or like five, so that you have one for every day of the workweek (a.k.a. you will never iron again).

We are located here. We look forward to seeing you.

Get Your Perfect Shirt with Measure Up

A handsome dress shirt is three things: 1) it fits like a glove; 2) the fabric is high quality, and 3) it sends the message you want, e.g. I’m powerful, I’m unique, or I’m ready to party.

This trifecta can be difficult—if not impossible—to achieve by buying any old thing from a department store. The best way to get the shirt you want is to have it made to measure by Measure Up, one of the top custom clothing makers in the world.

Lucky for you, we carry Measure Up right here at Binghams.

Learn more about made-to-measure clothing here…

First, having a shirt custom made by Measure Up allows you to nail the fit because we take approximately 14 measurements to get the shape right. This is better than buying and tailoring a pre-made shirt because it’s actually harder to cut and re-sew a ready-made garment than it is to make one from scratch with the correct measurements.

Also with Measure Up, you get choose from nearly 400 fabrics, all of which are sourced from mills around the world. So be picky about hairline vs. bengal, pink vs. salmon, or two-button vs. two-button-cut—you can be with custom shirts.

Measure Up is as much about quality as they are individuality. They pride themselves on hand-making each shirt, one at a time, in their Tennessee factory. They’ve been doing it for more than 20 years and are among the best custom shirt makers in the business.

Come check out Measure Up custom shirt options at Binghams today. Your perfect shirt awaits.

Linen Shirts Are In (Both In Style and Our Store)

Report Collection's linen shirts

Report Collection’s linen shirts, here at Binghams

Linen is the fabric of the spring 2015 season, and we are carrying the brands and styles that do it best. We just received the newest linen shirts from the always-sleek Report Collection (see the photo above), and our beloved Peter Millar, who has infused casual cool into their classic aesthetic to match the mood of spring.

But, first—let’s talk about linen as the hot spring trend.

As warmer weather graces us with its presence in here in Columbia, Mo., we crave ditching our heavy coats, structured suits and thick-soled shoes for clothes that allow for more irreverence and freedom. We are inspired to care less about formalities and to show our lighter, casual sides.

Linen embodies this inspiration. It is a natural fabric made from flax plants, which makes it lightweight but also crisp, and warm but also moisture resistant. The latter is perfect for those times when Mother Nature can’t decide on whether to be refreshingly warm or a tad chilly (ah, spring).

Linen is casual, but not decidedly. The fabric walks that fine line between casual and professional, and if worn correctly, a linen shirt can be totally business appropriate. Since leaving the office for lunch is now a welcome possibility, dress for success with a crisp linen shirt.

Our linen shirts from Report Collection are perfect for the office. They are all button downs and a few of them have contrast cuffs, both of which make them dressier. We have solids (white, yellow, gray, chambray, light blue, tan, pink and orange) if you want to play it safe, and checkered prints if you’re feeling a little more comfortable.

All of our Report Collection shirts—solid or checkered—are perfect for weekend outings and social gatherings, which makes them the ideal versatile shirt.

We also have Peter Millar’s spring 2015 linen shirts. Peter Millar is always classic, and upper crust but approachable. Their linen shirts are totally these things, but with a relaxed twist. “It’s linen, but with a southern-aristocrat style,” says Dave Danuser, co-owner of Binghams.

Peter Millar is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and its founder and creative director, Chris Knott, is a native North Carolinian.

Take a look: Peter Millar linen shirts in retro pink, liberty blue, parade and white.

“You could wear a Peter Millar linen shirt on a yacht or in the office—they are perfect for both,” Dave adds.

Hopefully you have yachts and business on your agenda for this spring. If you do, come see us at Binghams and we’ll help you look effortlessly on point in both settings with our Report Collection and Peter Millar linen shirts.

Gift Ideas for the Picky Guy on Your List

Figuring out what Christmas gift to get for a guy with very discerning sartorial tastes can be difficult. You know that not just any sweater, tie, or pair of socks will do. No, they have to be the highest quality and most luxurious sweaters, ties, and socks around. Understandably, this can leave you feeling like, “what on earth do I get him?”

Luckily, we here at Binghams are well-versed in the tastes of picky men, and don’t even blink when presented with the challenge of finding something for the guy who has super fine taste. We love it, in fact. And to show you just how much we love it, we’ve come up with our own holiday gift guide.

All of the items on this list are available right here at Binghams, and we’d be happy to help you pick them out.

1. A bow tie or classic necktie
Now, before you say, “how unoriginal,” consider this: a tie is only a lame gift if the tie itself is lame. Therefore, you want to get him a tie that far surpasses any you’d get at a department store. Here at Binghams, we have a plethora of ties so fine and elegant that they can make a guy purr. Some of the brands we carry are Robert Talbott, Byron, and Hickey Freeman.

2. Fine grooming products
Great style isn’t just about fine clothes; it’s also about fine grooming. Pamper him with luxurious products from Moonshine, an exclusive line of men’s cologne, soap and aftershave balm.

3. Sophisticated sports wear from Barbour
Upscale sportswear (or “outdoor wear”) is the trendiest way to stay warm this season, and Binghams has today’s hottest brand for outdoor wear: Barbour. We have vests, shirts, hats and satchels that will absolutely turn heads.

4. A pair of Allen Edmonds shoes
Harsh winter weather can wreak havoc on a guy’s favorite shoes, so get him a pair of Allen Edmonds, shoes that are known for withstanding the elements and lasting for years. In fact, A.E.s last so long and wear so well that owners typically repair rather than replace them.

We have a wide selection of Allen Edmonds footwear.

5. David Donahue dress shirts
A guy can never have too many David Donahue dress shirts. They are among the finest in the world and Binghams has a wide variety for you to choose from.
